Tom French by Eamon LittleThe Gallery Press delights in the news that Tom French has been selected for the O’Shaughnessy Award for Poetry 2016.

 

This $5000 award will be presented to the author in April at the University of St Thomas Center for Irish Studies in Minneapolis.

 

The O’Shaughnessy Award for Poetry, established in 1997, honors Irish poets. The award is named for Lawrence O’Shaughnessy, who taught English at St. Thomas from 1948 to 1950, formerly served on the university’s board of trustees and the retired head of the I.A. O’Shaughnessy Foundation.

 

Previous winners published by The Gallery Press include Peter Sirr,  Moya Cannon, Frank Orsmby, Michael Coady, Kerry Hardie, Dennis O’Driscoll,  Seán Lysaght, Gerard Smyth and Paula Meehan.

 

Tom French’s fourth collection, The Way to Work, will be published later this year.
