Tom Mac Intyre Tom Mac Intyre is an Irish poet, playwright and short story writer.

Born in Cavan in 1931, Tom Mac Intyre writes in Irish and English. He has had many plays performed by the Abbey Theatre, most notably Good Evening Mr. CollinsThe Great Hunger, Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire and What Happened Bridgie ClearyThe Gallant John-Joe, written especially for Tom Hickey, toured Ireland in 2001 and has been performed in the UK and the USA. His books of poetry include Stories of the Wandering Moon and Silenus na gCat which won the Oireachtas Prize for Poetry in 2000. He has also written two novels and several collections of short stories. 

His selected stories, The Word for Yes, are published by The Gallery Press in 1991. 

Tom Mac Intyre died in October 2019.

 

The Word For Yes

Tom Mac Intyre’s The Word For Yes contains stories selected from Dance the Dance (Faber and Faber, 1970) and The Harper’s Turn (Gallery Books, 1982) as well as a number of more recent stories.
