Kerry Hardie by Sean HardieKerry Hardie was born in 1951 in Malaysia and grew up in Northern Ireland. She is a member of Aosdána and lives in County Kilkenny with her husband, the writer Seán Hardie.

The Gallery Press has published A Furious Place (1996), Cry for the Hot Belly (2000), The Sky Didn’t Fall (2003), The Silence Came Close (2006), Only This Room (2009) Selected Poems (2011)  and The Ash and the Oak and the Wild Cherry Tree (2012). 

Her poems have won many prizes. She has won the Hennessy Prize, the Michael Hartnett Award, the Friends Provident National Poetry Prize, joint winner of the Irish Times Award for Poetry, the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award and the Patrick Kavanagh Award. Scholarships and residencies have taken her around the world to countries including Australia, France and China.

 

Selected Poems

Kerry Hardie’s Selected Poems distils almost twenty years’ work, charts adventures in Australia, China, Paris and the Pyrenees and encompasses grief and loss while honouring thirty years of marriage. Above all, her work maps emotional states, ‘the way things are’ . . . ‘all as it is’ . . . ‘Lives. Theirs, ours. Human times are mostly hard.’
