Three new poetry titles due for publication in October 2018 are Liner Notes by Ciaran Berry, This One High Field by Michelle O’Sullivan and From There to Here (Selected Poems and Translations) by Ciaran Carson. Also due for publication is a new version of Double Cross by Thomas Kilroy.
Liner Notes: Ciaran Berry’s third collection consider questions of what it means to grow up somewhere and grow away from somewhere. His voice is by turns celebratory, elegiac, inquisitive and quietly humorous, as he conjures a past that’s ‘bric-à-brac and hand-me-down’. More . . .
This One High Field: In this, her third collection, Michelle O’Sullivan returns to now familiar settings — the countryside, woodlands, an estuary — to examine ‘deep-set questions’ in the light, half-light, dusk and dark. Phrases accumulate like courses in a well-built stone wall as she wrestles with syntax, even language itself. More . . .
From There to Here: Ciaran Carson’s Collected Poems, one of the outstanding books of our time, has been followed by four collections of original poems and translations. This new selection, From There to Here, demonstrates the myriad facets of his virtuosity. It is a retrospective of an artist’s work that is characterized at every stage by formal, linguistic and imaginative opulence. More . . .
Double Cross (A new version): In this absorbing drama Thomas Kilroy investigates the validity of this claim. He shows, as through a prism, episodes in the lives of Brendan Bracken and William Joyce, including their relationship with Ireland and their conceptions of Britain and Germany in World War II.
