‘O Monaghan hills when is writ your story
A carbon copy will unfold my being’.
— Patrick Kavanagh
There is an array of literary talent lined up for the Annual Patrick Kavanagh Weekend together with musical performances, drama and of course the Annual Poetry Awards which never fails to surface new and exciting poetic talent.
This weekend event takes place in the Patrick Kavanagh Centre, which is dedicated to Ireland’s best loved poet. The Centre is situated in the picturesque and tranquil village of Inniskeen nestling among the Monaghan drumlins. Over the centuries, this ancient landscape has been an inspiration for legends, a home to poets and has proved to be such a rich source of inspiration for Kavanagh, prompting him to ‘dabble in verse’. The locale has changed little since his time, providing the perfect backdrop for the events of this annual Kavanagh week-end.
