David
Wheatley was born in Dublin in 1970. He won the Friends
Provident National Poetry Competition in 1994, and was awarded
the Rooney Prize for literature for his first collection, Thirst,
which was also shortlisted for the Forward Prize. His other publications
include Misery Hill, his second collection of poetry, Stream
and Gliding Sun: A Wicklow Anthology and I Am The Crocus,
a volume of children's poetry, both dating from his time as Writer in Residence
in County Wicklow.
He was a founder editor of Metre and is
a lecturer at the University of Hull.
